Welcome to Year 5 and Year 6
Wheal Luna is home to our eldest children in Years 5 and 6. It is staffed by class teacher Mr. Hurrell and assisted by Ms. Vaughan and Mrs Parker-Cock.
We believe in working hard with enthusiasm and joy to ensure our children are ready for their journey into secondary education and life beyond. We always encourage having fun and looking after each other - we are a team!
Autumn Term
Our topic for this term is 'Fallen Fields'. This project will focus our learning on the First and Second World Wars. We will explore the events that led to the outbreak of both wars, the experiences of warfare on the battlefields of Europe and what life was like on the home front, comparing our local area to other parts of the UK.
We will discover the influence that the wider British Empire had both on the initial outbreak of war, during the two conflicts and in the post-war period.
Spring Term
This project will focus our learning on farming and agriculture in the UK and around the world. We will explore the different types of farming in the UK from small allotments to large intensive farming methods as well as investigating where our food comes from and the importance of seasonality. We will be visiting local farms and growing our own fruit and vegetables in school.
Summer Term
This term we are learning about Mexico. We will study the physical and human geography of Mexico that makes it so unique as well a learn about the fascinating ancient civilisation of the Mayans.
Our class book is Holes by Louis Sachar. We will use this to help us write a narrative, persuasive text and poetry.
